Hello all,
Complete newbie to CTA-2. I have a basic question that I cannot solve for the life of me.
I want to put a custom prop into the hand of my actor. In this case, a knife.
When I drag the prop onto the staging area, I can't seem to figure out how to "attach" it to the actor.
When I go to the charactor editor, I can easily attach asset props to the actor, but I cannot figure out how to get my PNG file to show up as a custom prop asset.
Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated.

If your character is to pick up or put down the knife, then you should use Link/Unlink rather than Attach. Attaching a prop to a character doesn't allow you to add keyframes for it but Link does. Please see HERE for how to use this feature. Once you have your Knife in your scene you can save it by switching to Scene > Props and then click the ADD button at the bottom of Content Manager. This will add it to your custom Prop library.
