Detailed Facial Animation isn't my expertise.

I & others have experienced 2 problems using Facial Animation Templates, over the years;

1) Different Expression Styles can't be added to the same Viseme, since they all start at the beginning of the Viseme Track.

2) Script Templates are automatically added to both the Expression & Viseme Tracks. If you Import a Voice first & then add a Script Template, this Overwrites the Viseme. However, it can be Dragged across & away from the Viseme, exposing the Viseme & then Deleted.

Thought I'd add that if you double-click a viseme, a viseme setting panel pops up. You can then change existing visemes, or add new ones. As you scrub the timeline, the current viseme will hilight in this panel as well.

.

Yes, I had tried changing the last viseme in my example from "F.V" to "None" and that helped.  I just didn't bother to write it up because it seemed to be getting too far down into details and risked dilluting the main message.  But this topic got more in-depth each time I posted anyway, so thank you for pointing that out.

It seems odd to me, though, that "Normal" would bother to include visemes.  After all, what is it they think he's saying?  Or is it just supposed to be one of each viseme for that "expression"?    It starts with the "None" viseme.  Too bad it doesn't also END with "None".

HMM...  Do you get one of each viseme when you add an expression?  I'll have to look.  Maybe they all do that, so you have a full set of visemes that are unique to that expression, which would be handy for manual viseme work.  That actually makes sense to me.

SIDEBAR:  Is it true that if you don't have the "Pro" version of iClone, you cannot do any timeline editing?  If that's the case, how would you address this situation?  That seems to make a "Full Facial RESET" button essential.  Just like you can reset your avatar's body, why not the face?

.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...
Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual  monitors.
Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

Yes, you need Pro for timeline editing. The Standard version doesn't have that, so it never seemed very useful to me, except for basic projects.

I usually start with the speech first and then do any expressions with the puppet. I've found the pre-programmed expressions often too exaggerated.

Uh, Viking, you aren't procrastinating, are you? Tongue There's a project to finish...

So, without access to timeline editing, it seems to me that it could be nearly impossible to fully reset a face.  Applying the "normal" expression script would do it, except it ends with the "V.F" viseme rather than "None".

Why do think I ran into this in the first place?  Wink

I was working on the project, and even making some progress, until I got distracted again.  Whistling

How many times have we all stated that doing Pinhead projects is a great learning experience?  I suppose that's true with any project (unless it's heresy to say that - sorry Pinhead).  In my case, I've spent most of the last year doing micro-clips and playing with individual functions.  As soon as you try to put them together into a full-length project, wow, what a different world of challenges!

In my case, I just wanted to Pinhead to look up and have his jaw drop open.  Normally that's where I would stop, but since the scene continues, I needed to put his mouth back to it's usually position.  And that lead to the creation of this thread.

I'm lucky I can access this site and keep up with things while at the office.  It's a great way to spend 5 or 10 minutes between other activities, when I there isn't really any point in starting a "work activity" that would have to put on hold just as I'm getting going on it.  A lot of things I do are complex and it takes a while to get immersed in the activity, and there's very little point in starting them if I can't dedicate at least half an hour to the task.  So I keep coming here now and then throughout the day to fill the gaps in the day.

If only I could run iClone at the office.  That would be great, but then I wouldn't get anything at all done at the office, and I suspect eventually someone might notice.

Well, I never understood the purpose of the Standard version, because without access to the timeline it's hard to do anything. We are fortunate facial animation is now integrated. Before you had to do it in CrazyTalk and then import the animation.

BTW, seems like a nice workplace you have...
