| I'm a bit confused about having characters walking around a scene... After applying the walk motion, I've tried translating or moving my characters position, but either they keep waking in place after reaching their destination or they stop walking, but are still moving... What are some good tips and techniques for moving a character around a set? And in more than just a straight line?
Another question I have is, I've seen tutorials for linking props to a character, but is there anyway to do this mid-scene? When I've linked a prop to a character, it's for the duration of the scene, whereas I'd like a character to pick something up mid-scene.
And I think I must be doing something wrong... When I create a custom motion, it keeps looping in my main scene. How do I keep it from looping, when once the actual motion is done, it just keeps the same pose for the duration of the scene?
If these are covered by tutorials that I've missed, I apologize for asking... but I've searched, and watched alot of tutorials, but none that I've found deal with these types of things, mostly they're centered on creating your character, or adjusting the textures and main poses. But nothing so much about putting together a scene, from start to finish, with elements of interaction inside them. ANyone know of a tutorial like this? |

| | Hi. I have similar problems, especially with the "slide effect". The only way I have found around it is by using the timelines in both Motion Editor and The Scene Builder to align the start and end positions with the start and end of the motion. If there is a simpler way, I would love to know as I often confuse myself swapping between the two applications and find it very time consuming when there is an accidental blip in one of the time lines and a character suddenly drifts through a wall and reappears a few seconds later. As for stopping the looping - again, I compare teh two time lines, ensuring that the motion editor is the same length as the scene builder, and fill in the empty motions with the default or "Insert Last Pose" options. Again - any improvements anybody could suggest would be greatly appreciated, but I hope this helps you for now. Ooh - and I'v enot had chance to play with 2.5 yet, so can't answer the prop thing, but woultd be interested to know as I am looking at having somebody answer a phone. |

| i believe there was a formula for it - i can't seem to remember the final number but the way they went about it was you take the number of frames for a walk cycle and then move the characters position a certain number - i think a rough number ( i may be wrong here) was 2:1 so if you have a 600 frame walk animation, the character position should change from 0 to 1200
hopefully somebody remembers it more accurately
i gues you can also derive it by taking a motion where the character actually moves and measure the position from start to finish to get you a rough starting point

| See if this helps.... I posted this on CoolClones a long while back. Re-posted download link to assist you 13mb download with video done by Steve Draun embedded explaining it further plus a PDF explaining the formula. (pssssst..it works!)
It's based on a formula and keeping the PDF open while making use of the formula will help you understand it better.
Basically: Take the Number of Frames (600 is the Default) divide by 60 = 10
Multiply 10 X 120 which equals 1200 or the number of frames the character should advance to appear normal in stride and advancement. Turns are shown in the video, and how to make them appear natural.
