I've been struggling with the BVH converter in IC3 Pro for a couple nights and simply can't get any bvh conversions to work. The avatar ends up distorted and crippled. With 2.5, I had no problems.

Anyone having any luck? If it's changing the profile, is there a tutorial?

thanks

Hi,

the best way to work with bvh files in IClone is to convert them with 3ds max and the vns export plugin. You can download the pluin and a example-biped file for max on the IClone developer page. Then assaign your motion data on this biped and export the data as animation vns.

cheers

If you want to stay with the bvh converter, here is a tutorial:

Thanks for your quick reply, newbie. I don't own 3D Studio Max, so I can't go in that direction, but the tutorial looks good. I'll follow it through tonight and see what I can come up with.

Wish they'd upgrade this converter so you wouldn't have to do so much extra work.

Thanks again!

Hi Rgrove

Depending where you are getting your BVH files from they may not work I am afraid. Even going back early as 1.5 there has been issues with certain BVH files. It seems some come in with the likes of twisted feet, legs etc. This is probably because they have been created using different bone structures. I remember in the early days spending a lot of time with this problem. Just to save you a little time perhaps?

Well, 3.1 is a great update to IC. They are really polishing it off. However, the BVH converter stays in its same useless state. Really wish they'd fix this thing. It's not like Poser is unknown, or, for that matter, compatibility with V4/M4 from DAZ in D|S BVH export. Since they're reselling through DAZ you might think we'd get something working soon.

One thing that aniMate in D|S brings are motions that can be spliced together to convey emotion. I'll just have to wait until these same types of motions show up in the Backstage. I've spent most of today trying to get bvh from D|S to work. Its close but not good enough and I'm through wasting my time with the BVH converter.

Please RL, fix this app or abandon it. It really hasn't worked in converting BVH reliably or correctly - ever. Don't get me wrong, 3.1 is slick and wonderful. I just wish I could piece together animations like with aniMate. Just the gesture blocks alone would help.

dh

BTW, newbie, care to post a tutorial on how to convert the bone set up of James and/or V4/M4 to the IC bone file? I do not know max and will not be learning it. I did download the trial, but if I have to tweak the file like with the converter I'll just uninstall Max. Just is not worth my time. Now if they supported Maya like they do Max, I'd be MUCH happier.

Dear Rgrove,

We had tested this description several times, but we can’t repeat this matter. Could you provide more detail about how you operate the programme until encountered the problem? Please list steps as possible as you could. Then, we are able to help you to solve it. Also, we would be grateful if you could provide this project file and motion file to us.

Hello
Has your problem been fixed? Someone posted a customized Poser 7 profile a while ago. I tried it and have had no other problems with bvh conversions.
