I had a go at it last night. The sequencer is a nice addition. Now it's easy to just load any FBX and a bunch of animations. There is no real need to set them up as game characters if your only doing "dumb" (vs AI, controllers, playable characters, etc.) movies. Although it might be helpful to at least set them as NPC's for collision capsules and stuff. Haven't got that far yet.

It is very promising.
